I think Gay Pride week had an effect on Lola

Four year-old Lola just said to Iris, "I'm going to marry a princess just so I can be gay!"

How *WAS* your Pride weekend? I had so much fun all week that by Sunday, I decided to stay home.

When you live in the fringes of the Castro, there's a certain amount of Gay Pride going on each and every day.

Iris wanted to go to the parade on Sun., but I felt too lazy. My energy level has been very low since I'm getting over a cold (I still have a lingering sinus infection; I felt really crappy Sat. afternoon & evening). I should have marched in the parade, since my kitten rescue was marching along with some kittens (they supposedly always get a great reception; evidently gay people are insane for kittens and cheer for all the crazy cat ladies). Maybe next year I'll get it together to march with the cat ladies & Iris. (I have marched in the pride parade back in the '90's).

The main effect Pride has on us is that parking becomes impossible. We were highly motivated not to go anywhere so as not to lose our parking spaces.

i can relate to the parking. i live literally one block from santa monica blvd. in the heart of west hollywood. they even block off my street and i can hear the concerts and the noise. the worst part is the fireworks scare polly to death.

I just didn't have enough energy for it this year. The crowds are so intense, and I would worry so much about Lola getting trampled. I'm sorry I missed all the beautiful drag queens. Maybe next year...

I didn't go either. I hate crowds, and I'm too short to see anything. I remember enjoying the parade in my teens and twenties, but now it's just too insane. I was there for about 20 minutes last year before I couldn't stand it anymore.

The rest of the week was great though - by the time I'd finished with the Queer Arts Festival, the Trans March, the Dyke March, and various rallies, I was pretty much thoroughly partied :)
