Against my wishes, the Sober Husband has introduced the World of Warcraft into our home. I had consciously shunned WoW over the years, fearing that the husband or I would become obsessed with it (indeed the husband had gone through an extensive obsession with Warcraft II, in the days before WoW was invented. During a more obliging phase of my pregnancy with Iris, I used to while away the hours during my premature labor bedrest creating custom levels for him).
The children are obsessed with it. The husband is facilitating this geeky interest of theirs. Indeed, the other day as I weakly called him to my sickbed, he brushed off my invalid inquiries with a brusque, "I need to help the children with their Warcraft."
All Lola wants to do is create new characters and run around. She favors a more buxom character ("Look! Like Mama!") Tonight, after Iris had gone to bed, I helped Lola pick a name for her latest character, a sexy lady zombie. "How about 'Fluffypants'?" I suggested helpfully. We roared with laughter. "No fair!" shouted Iris from her top bunk in the next room.

You'd be surprised how many families I've met that game together! My husband and I have a little Game Within the Game that we like to play, called Spot the Three-Year-Old. Some indicators are Incessant Jumping, Rapid-Fire Shapechanging, Running in Circles, and Cycling Through Emotes.
I let my kids play, too. I figure they can't possibly be more annoying than the 13-year-olds incapable of forming a single sentence without using leetspeak.
woot! Horde ftw :D
just keep them off the pvp servers; there are waaay too many griefers out there.
What no armory links?
I did not understand 37% of what vodalus just said. I'm so sad.
Anon, I didn't undeerstand what ANYONE said.
i'm a little disheartened that all the "three year old" traits pallas listed sound like the most fun.
Ah, that's only b/c you don't play Hughman. The really fun stuff is running around picking flowers, doing seasonal quests and wearing silly costumes. Cycling through emotes is only fun with friends.
aaand speaking of the armory:

hehehe... i am a nerd... (i blame todd!)
noes! it cut me off!
oooo... picking flowers!
i can haz teh daizies!
Hugh, they are absolutely the most fun -- that's why we game with our kids!
The real funsuckers are the people who take it all SO seriously. "You do understand that it's not REAL gold, right? And that you're not actually creating anything? Or saving the world? Oohkay then."
Thus, we do avoid the PvP servers, vodalus. Also, we have a guild of gaming families, so there's usually another small person (or very patient adult) to play and chat with.
Alliance Rulez!
Pallas, how do I find a guild of other families?
Vodalus, Lola favors the Horde, but Iris and I are night elves. (Lola has a Tauran and an Undead). Also, you gotta TinyURL those long links (I'm too lazy to do it myself, but it's the thing to do).
One could discover a family friendly guild, or we could all transfer our kids toons to a server and start our own guild.
1: General "Children of Drunkards" is now recruiting all levels. We are a fun guild that likes picking flowers and fishing. We don't care about leveling or endgame or raids. pst Vodalus for invite. We're the ones in the Hello Kitty tabbard.
I think we're gonna need two guilds: one for the Horde and one for the Alliance.
I want to make an Orc character. I tried playing as a Tauran, and I like the graphics of the Tauran's villages, but I'm over the character already. I tried a Goblin, but after a few minutes I couldn't stand seeing myself as a dwarf (not that there is anything wrong with being a dwarf -- and speaking of dwarves, one of my favorite actors of all time is Peter Dinklage. Everyone must see "The Station Agent" and "Death at a Funeral"!).
I'm actually only pro-Horde because all the friends that I play with rolled undeads. I tried being a troll mage for a while b/c that was the closest you could come to being a Pretty Horde Lady at the time but then I confiscated my bf's undead priest. Right after I had too much time invested to swap characters, they announced the Blood Elves >.<
For a little bit, I had a Blood Elf rogue and she was super fun. Leveling is also really fast in their area; I'm sure that the same is true for the Draeni. (Although I actually prefer the Draeni character design; the elves can be a bit too Barbie and Ken for my taste.)
Aaanyways, my priest!

*Sigh* I wish I hadn't learned that you play now. Talking too much about WoW is my primary vice.
DH, we made our own guild with a bunch of real-life dorky friends. If you ever play Alliance on Norgannon, look for Granfallooners (Tabard of a bare foot, of course. I have a Draenei mage by the name of Zephra.
My love for WoW skyrocketed when I found a good gay and lesbian guild. Taint FTW! Horse, Proudmore. Before that, I grew so very, very tired of all the preadolescents who had to "gay this" and "gay that" with every other comment (and worse).
